Refund Policy

If Dusty Desk is not for you, tell us inside the window and we will refund it. No hoops and no interrogation about how much you used it.

Draft v3 — not in effect Last updated 2026-08-26 Effective [OWNER: effective date] Seller of record Lemon Squeezy Window 14 days, no questions

In short

The promise, and the two honest limits on it.

  • 14 days, no questions asked. Ask inside the window and you get your money back. The key is cancelled, the payment is returned, and you delete the app.
  • Lemon Squeezy processes it, because Lemon Squeezy is who you bought from. The licence itself is granted by Marcos Mercado. Section 3 explains why there are two names.
  • We cannot check how much you used it, so we will not ask. There is no analytics and no telemetry in the product — we could not check even if we wanted to.
  • We have no remote off switch. The software runs on your Mac and makes no connection to us, so a refund ends your licence to use it — it cannot reach out and disable a copy you already installed. We are trusting you to delete it.
  • A refund does not currently erase you from the seller's records. Section 8 says exactly what that means and what is being done about it.

Nothing on this page limits the rights you have under the consumer law where you live. Where your local law gives you more than this policy does, your local law wins.

✓ Settled 2026-08-26 — who is selling, and what

The seller of record is Lemon Squeezy. They run the checkout, they are the party named on your receipt, and theirs is the name that will appear on your card statement — worth knowing now, because a charge you cannot recognise is a charge you dispute. They collect and remit VAT and sales tax for wherever you live. Refunds are processed by them. (Paddle is the named fallback; if the merchant of record ever changes, this page changes with it.)

The licence is granted by Marcos Mercado — an individual trading as Dusty Desk, a sole proprietor, not a company. So there are two relationships: your purchase is with Lemon Squeezy, and your licence to use the software is with Marcos Mercado under the terms. Refund requests go to the party you paid.

What you are buying is the software itself — a perpetual licence, run on your own Mac, delivered as a notarized direct download from dustydesk.io. Not a subscription, not a seat on a service, and not the Mac App Store, which cannot host this product at all.

Ruled by the owner on 2026-08-26. Honest caveat, same as on the terms page: none of the checkout or licence-file machinery is built yet. This page describes the policy that will apply, not a shop that exists.

Section 01What you bought

One app, in three tiers, all of them running on your own Mac, all of them bought once:

  • Ratón — the base tier, $29 one-time. Your phone as trackpad, keyboard and voice input for your Mac. Personal use.
  • Ratón Vista — the upgrade, $89 one-time, including 12 months of updates. Live screen view and control, Quick Share, Fleet. Personal use. (Elsewhere on this site the same upgrade is called Dusty Desktop View.)
  • Vista Pro — $199 one-time, including 12 months of updates, and it is the tier licensed for commercial use.
  • An updates renewal is optional — $39/yr for Vista, $89/yr for Pro. It is not a subscription and declining it never disables your copy; see Section 3.

There is no Dusty Desk account and no server of ours in the middle of your session. One honest qualifier on "runs entirely on your own Mac": remote links pass through a Cloudflare tunnel your Mac starts, and voice dictation is handled by your phone's own speech engine, which may process it off the device. The privacy policy is specific about both.

What you can actually be sold today

Fleet across several computers exists in the product, but parts of it are still being built — the AI task summariser does not exist, and permission grants are not yet enforced at every gate. We will not sell a multi-machine deployment as finished while that note is still here. Vista Pro covers one person using Dusty Desk commercially — your own work, your own machines, your own clients. Rolling it out across an organisation's computers is a different thing, out of scope for this page, and covered by a separate agreement.

Section 02The refund window

Fourteen days from purchase. No reason required, and no reason asked for. Write to us inside those fourteen days and the purchase is refunded — you do not have to justify it, describe a fault, or explain what you were expecting instead.

There is nothing to cancel alongside it. Dusty Desk is a perpetual licence, not a subscription: no recurring charge exists, so there is no cancellation step, no proration to calculate, and no partial month to argue about. If you later buy an optional updates renewal, that renewal is its own one-time purchase with its own fourteen days.

One genuinely useful consequence of how Dusty Desk is built: it has no analytics and no telemetry, so we cannot see how much you used it. A refund inside the window is therefore never conditioned on usage. We could not check even if we wanted to, and a policy that cannot be enforced is one we would rather not pretend to enforce.

⚑ Owner decision — splitting a refund across tiers

[OWNER: partial refunds and bundle splits.] — STILL OPEN. Does refunding the Vista upgrade alone leave the $29 base tier active, and how does a purchase that bundled tiers split? The 2026-08-26 rulings set the prices and the window and did not reach this, and with three tiers rather than two it matters more than it did. Until it is decided, a split-refund request is handled case by case, in the buyer's favour.

Not knowable from the code. Business decision.

Section 03What a refund actually does

  • Your payment is returned to the original payment method by Lemon Squeezy, the merchant of record. How long it takes to appear depends on them and on your bank, not on us.
  • Your licence is cancelled in the sales records. A refunded licence will not be honoured for support or re-issue.
  • The honest part: because the software runs on your own Mac and makes no connection to us — every outbound request its own server makes goes to your own machine — we have no remote switch to disable a copy you already installed. Taking the refund ends your licence to use it. Please delete the app and stop using the key.

Deleting "the app" means a little more than dragging one folder to the trash, and the privacy policy has the full list. The short version: delete the two data folders on your Mac, remove the saved link from the app on your phone (it contains your key), delete the start-up log files (they contain your key too), and revoke the macOS permission grants in System Settings.

A refund also ends the updates window that came with a Vista or Pro purchase. That is worth almost nothing today and we would rather say so than dress it up: there is no update channel and no update has ever shipped, so "you lose access to updates" currently describes losing access to something that does not yet exist. The software does not check for updates at all. The same caveat is on the terms page, where it belongs before you buy rather than after.

Section 04Trials

Fourteen days, fully featured, no credit card. Nothing to cancel, because there is nothing to charge — you are not entering a card, so no trial can quietly turn into a purchase. Nothing is collected: no account, no email, no server call. The trial is enforced on your own Mac by a first-run date stamp.

Trying it does not shorten your refund window. The fourteen days in Section 2 start at purchase, whether or not you used the trial first — trialling and then buying gives you both, one after the other, not one instead of the other.

The trial lock is honest, not clever

A date stamp in a file on your own disk can be reset by anyone who wants to reset it. We know that, we are not going to build anti-tamper machinery to pretend otherwise, and we are telling you rather than letting you find out. It works because most people are honest, and the refund policy above exists so that nobody has to cheat a trial to avoid being stuck with something they did not want.

Section 05Before you ask: the link that stopped working

Today, remote links ride ephemeral tunnels and their address changes when the tunnel restarts. If your link stopped working, that is usually a two-minute fix rather than a broken product — email us first and we will get you running again.

⚑ Owner decision — how to treat link-rotation complaints

[OWNER: link-rotation handling.] — STILL OPEN. Until permanent links land, decide whether a "my link died" complaint gets a support-first path, an extended refund window, or ordinary treatment. Related and also open: which permanent-link architecture wins — see Privacy Section 4.

Section 06How to request a refund

Email marcos@marcossmercado.com — the same address as on the support page and in the privacy policy — with your purchase receipt from Lemon Squeezy. Because there are no accounts, the receipt is how we match you to a purchase. We aim to reply within a few business days. You can also go to Lemon Squeezy directly, since they are the party who took the payment.

⚑ Owner decision — how much proof to ask for

[OWNER: proof of purchase vs. keys as bearer tokens.] — STILL OPEN. Whether to ask for the licence key as well as the receipt. Asking a buyer to email their key is asking them to email a working credential. It is defensible for a key that is about to be cancelled anyway, but it should be a deliberate choice — the alternative, written into the paragraph above for now, is receipt only, and we ask for the key separately if we actually need it. The 2026-08-26 rulings settled the contact address and did not reach this.

Section 07Chargebacks

Please contact us before disputing a charge. With a no-questions-asked window there is genuinely nothing to win by going to your bank first — we would far rather refund quickly than fight a chargeback. The charge on your statement will read as Lemon Squeezy, not as Dusty Desk or Marcos Mercado, and an unrecognised charge is the commonest reason a chargeback gets filed by mistake; that is precisely why it is named here. If a chargeback is filed on a purchase already refunded, or without contacting us first, we may contest it using the purchase records held by the merchant of record, and the associated licence is cancelled.

Section 08What a refund does not erase

A refund cancels your key in the seller's records. It does not, today, remove your name and email from the install that issued it: revoking a licence sets a flag on the record rather than deleting it, and there is no delete path in the software. Dismissed upgrade requests persist the same way.

⚑ Owner decision — a purge path

[OWNER: erase-on-refund.] — STILL OPEN. Either build a real delete path so a refunded buyer's name and email can actually be removed, or state plainly here that the record is kept until the file is edited by hand. The same decision is flagged in Privacy Section 11. It cannot be left unstated once money changes hands — and with a 14-day no-questions window now promised, refunds will happen, so this one has moved from theoretical to scheduled.

Section 09Your statutory rights

Nothing in this policy limits the rights you have under the consumer law where you live.

Buyers in the EU and the UK: digital-content rules give you a 14-day right to withdraw, which a buyer can waive by consenting to immediate delivery at checkout.

We are not asking you to waive it. The 14-day no-questions window in Section 2 is offered to everybody, everywhere, which means an EU or UK buyer gets at least what the law already guarantees rather than being asked to sign it away in order to download the file. If your local rules give you longer or better, those apply instead of this page.

⚑ Owner decision — the exact EU/UK checkout wording

[OWNER: EU/UK withdrawal handling — the wording.] — STILL OPEN. The substance was ruled on 2026-08-26 (14 days for everyone, no waiver sought). What is not settled is the literal text at checkout: whether an immediate-delivery consent is still collected for the download, and how it is phrased so that it does not read as a waiver of the very window we just promised. That text lives in the merchant of record's checkout, not on this page, and it needs a lawyer's confirmation before launch — this is the item on this page most likely to be got wrong by copying somebody else's.

Section 10Governing law

✓ Settled 2026-08-26 — jurisdiction

This policy is governed by the laws of Puerto Rico, with San Juan, Puerto Rico as the venue for any dispute — the same as the terms, of which this policy forms part.

As Section 9 says, that choice does not displace the consumer protections you have where you live, and where yours give you more, yours win.

Ruled by the owner on 2026-08-26; the carve-outs for buyers elsewhere still need a lawyer, and no lawyer has read this.

A Spanish translation of this page is planned once the English text is settled.

If you are reading this because something went wrong, start at the support page — a surprising share of refund requests are a link that needs restarting, and we would rather fix it than take your money back.
